City Parks Add 50 New Outdoor Picnic Tables, Unlocking New Leisure Spaces for Residents

In response to growing demand for outdoor recreation, the city’s landscaping department recently launched the “Park Amenity Enhancement Plan.” The first batch of 50 brand-new outdoor picnic tables has been installed and put into use across 10 key urban parks. These outdoor picnic tables blend practicality with aesthetics, not only providing convenience for picnics and relaxation but also emerging as popular “new leisure landmarks” within parks, further enriching the service functions of urban public spaces.

According to the responsible official, the addition of these picnic tables was based on in-depth research into public needs. “Through online surveys and on-site interviews, we collected over 2,000 pieces of feedback. More than 80% of residents expressed a desire for picnic tables in parks for dining and relaxation, with families and younger groups showing the most urgent demand.” The official noted that the placement strategy fully integrates park foot traffic patterns and landscape features. Tables are strategically positioned in popular areas like lakeside lawns, shaded tree groves, and near children’s play zones, ensuring residents can easily find convenient spots for rest and gatherings.

From a product perspective, these outdoor picnic tables showcase meticulous craftsmanship in design. The tabletops are crafted from high-density, rot-resistant wood treated with high-temperature carbonization and waterproof coatings, effectively resisting rain immersion, sun exposure, and insect damage. Even in humid, rainy weather, they remain resistant to cracking and warping. The legs utilize thickened galvanized steel pipes with non-slip pads, ensuring stability while preventing ground scratches. Sized for versatility, the outdoor picnic table comes in two configurations: a compact two-person table and a spacious four-person table. The smaller version is perfect for couples or intimate gatherings, while the larger table accommodates family picnics and parent-child activities. Some models even include matching foldable chairs for added convenience.

“Before, when I brought my child to the park for picnics, we could only sit on a mat on the ground. Food easily got dusty, and my child had nowhere stable to eat. Now with the outdoor picnic table, placing food and sitting down to rest is so much more convenient!” Ms. Zhang, a local resident, was enjoying lunch with her family beside an outdoor picnic table. The table was set with fruit, sandwiches, and drinks, while her child played happily nearby. Mr. Li, another resident captivated by the outdoor picnic tables, shared: “When friends and I camp in the park on weekends, these tables have become our ‘core gear.’ Gathering around them to chat and share food is far more comfortable than just sitting on the grass. It really elevates the park’s leisure experience.”

Notably, these outdoor picnic tables also incorporate environmental and cultural elements. Some tables feature carved public service messages along their edges, such as “Tips for Waste Sorting” and “Protect Our Natural Environment,” reminding citizens to practice eco-friendly habits while enjoying leisure time. In parks with historical and cultural themes, the designs draw inspiration from traditional architectural patterns, harmonizing with the overall landscape and transforming these tables from mere functional facilities into carriers of urban culture.

The project lead revealed that ongoing feedback on the tables’ usage will be monitored. Plans include adding 80 more sets in the second half of this year, expanding coverage to more community and country parks. Concurrently, daily maintenance will be strengthened through regular cleaning and anti-corrosion treatments to ensure the tables remain in optimal condition. This initiative aims to create a more comfortable and convenient outdoor leisure environment for residents, infusing urban public spaces with greater warmth.
